Secure Gun Storage Campaign

August 26-30 is the first annual SMART Week, a back-to-school campaign to raise awareness about secure gun storage. This campaign is part of the Be SMART program created by Everytown for Gun Safety. While AAP has not endorsed the campaign, it is generally aligned with AAP recommendations, and 17 individual AAP chapters have endorsed it.

If you would like to participate, you can find a social media kit with sharable assets here. Other ways to engage in the campaign include:

  • Attend a SMART Week event in your community. Find one here;
  • Work with your local officials to help pass a SMART Week proclamation. Click here to download the template.
  • Consider working with your local school systems to spread the Be SMART message. You can connect with a local Be SMART volunteer by emailing besmart@everytown.org.

You can also find AAP gun safety communications materials in this campaign toolkit.
